Uuugg...I have to admit this is one of my least favorite passages from the book. It always reminds me of the artist who painted the portrait of a lion solely from the descriptions of others - never having seen a lion himself.

I can't really tell if just Lucy is being portrayed as an overly emotional and scattered 19-year-old, being lit as a typical (accurate, or otherwise) young women of the 1890's or Stoker's poor attempt at portraying the mind of a 19th century teen, but it always seems over the top to me.

I suppose there is a lot to consider for a 46-year-old male writer to try and get inside the mind of a 19-year-old woman who is in the throws of having been proposed to three times in one day (!), but this letter always seems to be such a random stream of craziness that it leaves me wondering how accurate the 'thoughts' of Lucy are.
