Atlas Obscura has a nice entry on Poenari Castle. This was one of Vlad Tepes' fortresses.

Vlad the Impaler Dracula had an important contribution to Poenari Castle's rebuilding and consolidation in 1456, as he realized the strategically position of this important military building!
