Steve has received an unusual story format as a present. It's a candle, based on a Fu Manchu story. According to the gifter, the candle is constructed in several, ablative layers, each tied by scent to specific sections of the narrative. At the climax,
As it burns down, you'll find an actual chinese coin buried within and the face of Fu Manchu will appear on the side of the candle as it burns through the third layer.
I'm hard pressed to think of similarly olfactory narratives. Süskind's fine Perfume (1986) is about smells. Nasal obsessions, while related, are a different thing.
