Foucault vs Chomsky
I've been looking for a while for footage of this Foucault-Chomsky debate on Dutch tv (1971), and YouTube has been generous: Clip one, clip two. Those excerpts touch on some of the rich materials the debate cffers for modern left and critical theory, including essentialism versus social construction. It's good to see Chomsky argue for anarcho-syndicalism. And it's fun to remember some Foucault biography I read, which claimed the show's host was urging Foucault to wear a fright wig.
There's a transcript at Chomsky.info.
Credit due to this blog post, with which I entirely disagree, and to which I was led by Andrew Sullivan.
Thanks for the link.
For the record, I'm a libertarian, both socially and economically and am as distant from Kimball's prudery as I am from Foucault's giddy embrace of the Abyss and otherwise detachment from reality.
