It looks like health care Gothic is gathering momentum. Check out this gloriously berserk bit from a Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) speech.
"What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing," said Bachmann. "This will not pass. We will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn't pass."
(Was she channeling Gandalf on the bridge?)
And just how scary is Obama's reform, representative?
"Right now, we are looking at reaching down the throat and ripping the guts out of freedom," she said.
Blood, body parts, body horror - fine stuff from the Gothic tradition. A bit of slasher film imagery, says one Colorado source. Rhetorically well-aimed at a debate about health care.
Where's this Gothic health care reform meme coming from? Sarah Palin took the lead on Gothic health care discourse last month. Ted Gunderson then picked it up and ran further.
Is this newest Gothic spin only coming from the right, or is there a parallel on the left?
