Today's chilling but cheerful tale: the happy ending to a story about being buried alive usually means the victim showing signs of life at a timely moment. I've never heard of a "dead" baby "awakening", though.

The child began to cry during the funeral in his coffin.

Groan... reminds me of that great Tim Powers wake scene, in _Drawing of the Dark_. It involves a dead archer.
And yes, an ultimately sad story. Many real-life Gothics are.
