Bitcoin has received enough attention to elicit anxieties. Not concerns about its economic impact - although those are real, and going on - but panics in the classic fearsome digital world fashion.
CNN points out comeone using the main Bitcoin database to share porn (and a very retro ASCII cartoon of Ben Bernanke). "[S]omeone took advantage of [the databse] for a nastier purpose: adding encoded links that claim to lead to porn sites, some featuring children."
(Maybe: "CNNMoney verified that the links exist in Bitcoin's database, but did not check to see if they actually went to child porn sites". That's thanks to an especially crazy part of American anti-digital-kiddie-porn law.)
NBC notices someone sneaking other people's computing power to mine more 'coin.
Meanwhile, Huffington spots people buying guns with Bitcoins.
Guns, cartoons, porn, and snarfing computer cycles: this dark side of Bitcoin also makes a nice snapshot of American culture.
