What's not to admire about a "blood encapsulation project"?
This is one way Deep Storage Project describes itself. It's an ambitious art/political initiative, with the goal of stashing samples of human biology at the bottom of the Marianas Trench. Thus far it resembles the Svalbard seed bank, to a degree.
Picture this; A vast steel sculpt, 8 by 8 by 8m, being lowered deep into the Pacific Ocean. This first of a series of sculpts will be stored into the Marianas trench, right to the bottom 11,000 metres down... are you ready for the plot twist? It’s going to be full of human blood and hair samples, DNA.
There's something pleasantly mad about this, as others have observed. For one, the sculpture is very weird. It resembles the alien glyph from Threshold. There's also some of a reverse-engineering-of-Cthulhu in stashing human tasty bits in the stygian gloom.
And the project's main poem (!) is somewhat unsettling.
The blood of man
A descent to the icy hell
Waiting 500 years for ascension.
And the main artist compares himself to a shaman and superman. What's not to love?
