« "Am summoned to see my father, who is worse | Main | LETTER, ABRAHAM VAN HELSING, MD, DPh, D. LiT, ETC, ETC, TO DR. SEWARD »

"I cannot tell you how I loathe talking about myself." Lucy - you liar! :)

And so the first appearance of Van Helsing. Note the praise -- to go by Seward, VH is the superhero progeny of Leonardo da Vinci and Jesus Christ.

Also, I don't know why, one of the sentences about VH is a rare Stoker sentence that is long and convoluted and just barely not run-on: "This, with an iron nerve . . . all-embracing sympathy." Any opinions from scholars -- a reason for this lapse, or did Stoker just lose it?

Re Stoker's long-winded sentence: Maybe he's preparing us for Van Helsing's sparkling, concise style. :)

ok, hello everyone... I am Ade Markus, from indonesia... I am new in here..
I just want to express my thought, that Dr Seward send his letter to invited his former Mentor Van Helsing at 1 September as soon as she know Lucy in bad shape... according to the Seward, Van Helsing live in Amsterdam... so how fast its the letter from England to Amsterdam actualy is? and how come Van Helsing can come back and forth Amsterdam -London - Amsterdam... since traveling and letters need time to reach...
