This is the last time the crew of the Demeter encounters any other people. She now sails directly to England, without stopping in any other ports for cargo or supplies. The Count must have arranged for a non-stop voyage. Perhaps this is a partial explanation for the larger-than-expected crew, since there would be no chance of replacing a sick or hurt man during the voyage.
