The escaping Renfield "was only in his night gear, and cannot be far off...Chasing an errant swarm of bees is nothing to following a naked lunatic, when the fit of escaping is upon him!"

Klinger (170 n49) supposes that Renfield "threw off the night gear in which he was clothed only a few moments earlier". It is possible, though, that Seward was using "naked" in the now-obsolete sense of "not fully clothed" or "lacking some clothing; clothed only in underwear"( https://www.etymonline.com/search?q=naked ; https://www.wordhippo.com/what-is/the-meaning-of-the-word/naked.html )
