Roman Catholic rosaries are made of beads arranged in five groups of ten. Each group is separated by a larger bead, and a crucifix or cross hangs from the center.

Many other religions also have strings of beads for counting prayers. I wondered if this could be an Eastern Orthodox rosary. A little research, however, showed that their rosary is made primarily of knots, not beads, and that it has a knotted cross rather than a metal crucifix.
