Most Significant

“I went on to make a thorough examination of the various stairs and passages, and to try the doors that opened from them. One or two small rooms near the hall were open, but there was nothing to see in them except old furniture, dusty with age and moth-eaten.”

So, although most of the rooms were locked on 8 May, on a second search Jonathan was able to find some unlocked rooms. Somehow, he had missed these the first time around. Did he even check the main entrance on his first search, or did he get into a frenzy for nothing?

Admittedly, his opinion then does seem justified by the fact that the main entrance is locked now, and by other events as well.
