The Count is back

The Draculablog rides again, friends and fellow readers!  Once again Jonathan Harker sets out for the east, unaware of the horrors awaiting him there.  Please read, comment, link, and enjoy with us.

What's new this year?

• More maps.  Andrew Connell has expanded his cartographical work, adding visualizations of our characters' travels.

• Automation.  Andrew also built a script to automate posting.
• Propaganda.  My book, The New Digital Storytelling (Amazon, publisher) has just appeared.  This blog appears in one chapter.  Meanwhile, I'm running a Web campaign to explore the book's themes (for example).

So please follow along with my digital storytelling research, and grab my book.

Quick note: we're getting ready for this year's Dracula run.  Some allies of this site have done tremendous work, and I think you'll all enjoy our new approach.

An apology, and a request, friends of the Count.

First, I'm very sorry that this blog project fell silent over the past month.  Well, silent on my end; Andrew has been enormously productive with maps.  I can only explain, lamely, that work continued in overdrive mode.  That, combined with homestead and family needs, devoured my time.  And how we're at the novel's end.

Second, what should we do for the next twelve months?

Here are some options - please don't be shy about adding more in comments:

• Blogging about Dracula.  This means posts about Dracula in pop culture, criticism, weird references (like this one), new scholarship, etc.
• Rerunning the novel, starting in May.
• A film series.  Screen a bunch of films, discussing them here.
• A reading series.  Ditto for books.

Your thoughts, dear friends?

 

Draculablog resuming after a pause

Greetings, loyal Draculablog readers.  We're a little behind, due to my being under a killer deadline, but things will resume shortly.

And so we stagger to the novel's end, the Count ending up back home, his progress sapped by our poor internet access.

What next, o readers?  Where shall we go with this blog in 2010?

Technical difficulties

My apologies for the past week of uneven posting, friends of the Count.  I'm suffering from network outages, up here in the mountains.  We're literally wrestling with antennas, towers, cables, signals, and many laptops, trying to keep the internet connected.  Hopefully we can get this repaired before Halloween.

Hopefully this post appears.  The way things are going, that's not a sure thing.

Relaunching the Count

Time to restart the Draculablog.

After a hiatus in 2008, we should start it all up again this year.  Why?

There has been some interest, expressed privately.

The Web 2.0 storytelling idea, formulated by Alan Levine and myself, continues to grow.  It would be fun to engage it with this project.

And in this monstrous economy, perhaps, sadly, more people will have more time to participate.

What say you all?

Draculablog 2008 hiatus

I will not blog Stoker's novel this year.  This is a hiatus.

The main reason is time.  As the only person behind the curtain, I'm simply not going to have the hours, especially during May, which requires the most work.

I'd also like to explore new ways of Web 2.0-ing Dracula.  Twitter feeds for chapters, Flickr images, aggregating video, podcasting... and the hours are simply not there.

Hopefully we can do this next year.  I would be glad to hear from volunteers/
