Welcome back! I've driven cross-country three times: once solo, once with wife Alice and 18-month-old Ian, and once with wife Alice and 3 1/2-year-old Ian and 7-months-gestated Jenny. All three times splendid and exhausting, aside from the 36 hours in aptly named Gallup, New Mexico dealing with food poisoning incurred at the Big Texan in Amarillo.
