Notes from approaching the Lost alternate reality game. I'm starting by working through the voicemail tree, reachable through the phone number that apparently played on a tv ad (1-877-HANSORG, or
426-7674). I'm playing from the US, and don't receive broadcast or cable tv.
A generic "welcome to Hanso" track greets us, then lists a series of options. Clicking on each one reveals some common features. Each one offers a Danish dj playing some music (rap; rock; "Magna Carta"; some English language). Each speaker signs off with "namaste". Real world companies are named: Verizon, Monster.com. Some people mention being out for 2 or 3 weeks.
1 - general 411, offering a Danish street address, and the URL for the company's WWW site (http://www.thehansofoundation.org/)
2 - Alvar Hanso, founder and CEO.
*The recording is dramatically interrupted, as a woman seizes the phone, demands to know what happened to Hanso; this is interrupted and returned to the menu
3 - Thomas Mittelwerk (President, CTO, COO, etc) mentions other firms (Widmore Corporation, Paik Heavy Industry), and a project manual for hotline access instructions
4 - Hugh Macintyre, VP and communications director - gives information about Korean offshore project, and mentions world's oldest orangutan (also visible on the WWW site)
*The recording then, after signing off, actually plays messages (Thomas; rename the accelerated remote viewing training facility) (Darla: Sri Lanka, "it just isn't right")
5 - Peter Thompson secretary and general counsel (but doesn't initially speak), and Korean offshore hosting
*another struggle for the phone, with initial speaker (Irene) wrestled away by Thompson, who energetically threatens to prosecute those who threaten him, Hanso, or the companies
6-7, 9 - hang up
8 - no effect - is this the first digital of extensions?
I'm reminded of the company site that launched the Matrix game.
Lostpedia has a good entry on this piece of the game.
