More on Web 2.0 storytelling: visual storytelling in Flickr. "Tell a story in five frames" (tagged /visualstory/) equires contributors to provide five (5) photographs, the sequence of which constitutes a storyline. For example, one set shows "how the famous drink their coffee". Another, inspired by the classic Julio Cortazar short short story, "Continuity of parks", focuses on a child reading a storybook.
The formal requirements are quite useful as an artificial, yet productive constraint. The small size of each project is a very low bar for contribution.
The title text is essential, I think, in framing the story. Equally important are the tags and comments. The latter give the whole pool the impression of being a workshop, consisting of critical feedback.
Pedagogically, this would be a fun, easy to launch exercise for a variety of composition and media curricular purposes.
