Engines of Our Ingenuity has a fun historical podcast this week, using the internet of tubes kerfluffle to summon up the pseumatic tube communications network. As Tom Standage noted in his telegraph book, the p-tube appeared in the second half of the nineteenth century, and connected up telegraph offices and businesses. People passed documents to each other via pneus. Some even dreamed up transportation networks.
Engines of Our Ingenuity is a good podcast in general. It offers up very short, rich, and thoughtful audio clips.
