This interview with Richard Bartle, one of the creators of MUDs (back in the 1970s, children), is very useful as we make more of Second Life, grow MMOGs, and thinking towards Third Life (or whatever). Bartle offers many bracing comments in terms of design and policy, letting us rethink some practices which are growing into assumptions.
It's also very important to think of the present Metaverse frenzy with an eye towards the long history of projects heading that way.
