I seem to remember that the Turing Test was a riff on the already-existing parlour game that required one to differentiate a man playing a woman from the "real woman". Interesting!

Good point, Ben.
I remember some of my students once designing a gender identity game, where they each signed onto a chat forum under a neutral name (random string of numbers, like "451"). After a short discussion, each created a list of the other participants, guessing their gender.
