"Haunted House on Capitol Hill." That's CNN, your Gothic news station, or at least Anderson Cooper getting ready for Halloween.
A full moon rises behind the Capitol; a hidden door opens; a scurry of feet, a rustle of leaves, and then silhouetted against the night Nancy Pelosi throws her head back and howls.
That's very good. Then there's more, much more, Cooper working the angle of politics getting scary. "It’s nothing but fangs and claws wherever you look." Vampires, serial killers, cauldrons, the works.
And there's a touch of Great Recession Gothic, here: "oh yes, the economy is still struggling to rise like a newly stitched and electrified Frankenstein." (We know he means Frankenstein's monster, not young Victor, don't we?)
But we have weeks to go before Halloween, which means still more political Gothic. Keep your eyestalks focused, friends.
