A Washington Post story describes the online life of the Nigerian Detroit bomber ("Captain Underpants" is the best name), and manages to avoid stoking fearsome internet anxieties.
The author describes a basic BBS without blame, just a mention of tech (IPBoard) and a focus on Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab's writings.
Note the appearance of Facebook, once again elevated above the rest of the scaryWeb:
On Facebook, Abdulmutallab's profile features a photo of him smiling, standing alongside two friends and wearing a sharp-looking pink polo shirt and sunglasses. He has 287 friends.
Perhaps this bodes well for better internet coverage in 2010. One can hope.
