Facebook has so far evaded the fearsome internet charge, but perhaps the world's leading social network will be nibbled on in 2010. Consider these late examples of mainstream media finding Facebook horrors:
An escaped criminal is avoiding British authorities, but keeps updating his Facebook page.
- Some claim that Facebook is fueling divorces. Naturally the key factor is sex, a crucial fearsome internet component (""The most common reason seemed to be people having inappropriate sexual chats with people they were not supposed to").
Note that the Telegraph story also mentions Bebo, even pairing it with Facebook. Second Life and Friends Reunited are also evoked. So one haunted media angle might involve guilt by association (assuming Bebo gets a bad reputation, while SL already has it).
One detail from the British burglar on the lam case suggests a fearsome Facebook theme could draw on crowdsourcing:
"Police are trying to use clues left by Lynch on his Facebook to track down where the convicted burglar may be hiding...
"We have spoken to Facebook and we are trying to trace him from the information we have, but it's one of those things that we're also asking for help from members of the public," Suffolk police spokesperson Anne-Marie Breach told CNN."
