Cyberwar fears are being overblown and oversold, say two critical scholars. Jerry Brito and Tate Watkins draw a bead on reports from Richard Clarke and the Center for Strategic and International Studies in "Loving the Cyber Bomb? The Dangers of Threat Inflation in Cybersecurity Policy" (pdf).
Brito and Watkins compare the use "cyber Pearl Harbor" anxieties to those deployed in the Iraq War buildup, along with Cold War defense booms. It's good to see fearsome media talk given some criticism and context.
