Dead comet flies nearby, looks like skull

Astronomers at JPL photographed a comet hurtling close to the Earth, and it looks very much like a flying skull.

Poetically, Gothically, it seems to be dead.

Scientists observing asteroid 2015 TB145 with NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, have determined that the celestial object is more than likely a dead comet that has shed its volatiles after numerous passes around the sun.

Helpfully, JPL turned a stack of TB145 images into an animated gif.
