The Earth is always hungry for human casualties. In Oregon a young man was trapped in a hole eight feet deep, and would likely have died, had not passers-by heard his screams.
Police tracking a stolen SUV found the rig abandoned in a ravine and followed footprints to a badger hole - and a suspect trapped 8 feet underground screaming for help, Oregon State Police said.
Authorities spent 90 minutes digging the man out.
State officials said troopers likely saved 22-year-old Gregory Morrow's life.
"Most likely Morrow would have died from exposure as he would not have been able to free himself," state police said in a press release.
