2015 TB145 is one of those asteroids that sometimes flies very close to the Earth. It zipped past our pale blue dot most recently in 2015.
It also resembles a human skull:
2015 TB145's backstory is also a bit haunting:
"This means that it is very dark, only slightly more reflective than charcoal," Pablo Santos-Sanz, an astrophysicist at the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia in Spain, said in a statement today (Dec. 20)...
The asteroid may actually be an extinct comet that has lost its water and other volatile materials after many laps around the sun...
Dark, ruined, and hurtling through deep space with the possibility of crashing into Earth: what's not to love?
